April: a month of new beginnings. (4/20/09)

April started off right when we went to the “Extraordinary Women’s Conference” in NC.   We had our spiritual batteries recharged … we sang, we laughed, we cried … ok I cried a lot!   We heard Michael O’Brien and Kathy Tricolli sing, and got to hear great speakers including Candace Cameron (DJ Tanner from Full House).   It was very uplifting and a lot of fun just to be there even if it only lasted a day.   The next weekend was jam-packed with music … I had the Easter Experience at my church Thursday, Friday, and three services on Sunday; we went to see our friends “Good Old War” on Friday night where we danced and sang along with all of their songs, then stayed up late to jam with Jason and write a new song; Saturday we played at Chick-Fil-A for two hours (thanks to everyone who came out … we appreciate your support so much) … Michael Lee was there holding everything together for us: selling CDs and being all around awesome (I think I use this word to describe him in every blog I write … but it is simply a fact) we started outside … but then the rains came and we were forced inside (which I was secretly ok with), after that I had another gig with the band I’m in and Laura spent some time with her family.   Easter was very exhausting but well worth it … I could feel the love of Jesus everywhere I went.   April has brought several new changes in our lives.   Not only are we writing more songs and adding new levels of creativity and musicianship to the group … but our personal lives are getting busy as well!   Laura moved apartments this past week, which called for a hiatus in music … but I think we needed a little break so its ok … she is happier with her life being more simplified and organized.   My personal life is revamping with the addition of a Godly man to call my own … the feeling of being in a real Christian adult relationship is amazing!   With all the music that we do separately, we haven’t been able to book many gigs in the upcoming weeks.   We will be recording in a couple weeks though … and we are still writing like crazy.   Please keep us in your prayers as we try to raise money for more recording, write new music, pray about other people helping us out … and pray that our music touches someone’s life, because that is the reason we are doing this!   Ya’ll have a great day, and God bless each of you! -Melissa
"That Was Easy!" (3/30/09)

WOW!!!  What a ride.  We had the first “real” gig on Friday in Norfolk, VA.  We were almost late because of traffic in the tunnel.  What we thought was a coffee shop environment with us providing background music turned into a full blown concert.  We started singing and they stopped talking … it was kind of funny!  Michael Lee went with us and did a fabulous job of taking pictures, selling CDs, and pretty much being all around AWESOME!  Thanks to Torrie and Royster Memorial for letting us sing for you.  We found this little historic church that was turned into a restaurant to eat at (Freemason Abby).  I am a history person, so I begged everyone to take me there.  I figure we can eat at an Applebee's anywhere, so I wanted to go to an original place.  Michael was smitten with the dolphin fountain across the street.  The food was pretty good (Michael and I had chicken cordon blue and Laura had steak), and even though Laura scared our waiter (with her refusal to hear about the venison (Bambi) special) … we had a good time all around.  The only downfall was getting back at 2am and having to get up to take Laura to the Ukrop’s 10k … but it was worth it because she RAN THE WHOLE 6 MILES!!!!!!!  We recorded two new songs last weekend with Mike Garrigan.  We took the Staples "Easy Button" with us and Mike had so much fun that I had to give it to him.  We hope to be in the recording studio at least once a month and have a full CD in production by mid-summer … so be looking for that.  Thanks to all the people who have been buying CDs already, you can’t imagine how much your support means to us!  We are singing at Chick-Fil-A in Chester on Saturday April 11 from 12-2, so come “Eat More Chicken” and listen to us.  We will be giving away prizes! (I know a shameless ploy to get you there, but I’m ok with that lol)  Hope you all had a great weekend!  You’re in our prayers, and we hope we are in yours!  Melissa
